This morning, Law360 sent breaking news that the Brooklyn US attorney’s office had charged the New York Governor’s former deputy chief of staff for acting as an agent for the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
This should surprise no one.
A United States Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Staff Report from November 2019 reports that:
The PRC “has pledged to spend 15 percent of its gross domestic product on improving human resources from 2008 to 2020. That amounts to an investment of more than $2 trillion.”
The PRC’s budget opacity makes it difficult for us to determine how the PRC will invest $2 TRILLION for “improving human resources.” We know that the PRC’s Military-Civil Fusion strategy subordinates all its people’s activities to the PRC’s national interest. We can also note that $2 TRILLION is more than twice the size of the Pentagon’s annual budget. We should expect that some of that $2 TRILLION for improving human resources would include improving human intelligence resources working for the PRC.
US citizens and leaders need to recognize the strategic resources that the PRC directs towards undermining US institutions as we formulate our own national strategies.
