Yesterday’s news on the People’s Republic of China (PRC) connects Flax, Salt and Volt Typhoon programs conceived by the PRC’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) (Exclusive | Chinese-Linked Hackers Breach U.S. Internet Providers in New ‘Salt Typhoon’ Cyberattack – WSJ).
MSS stirs up the Flax Typhoon, Salt Typhoon and Volt Typhoon as cyber weapons programs. That’s right, MSS spawns the Typhoon programs as cyber weapons programs. Americans get stuck thinking about MSS programs as hacking operations to gather intelligence. The FBI informs us, “China’s hacking program is larger than that of every other major nation, combined.” Named Typhoon, the Pacific Ocean equivalent of a hurricane, for a reason, the appellation alone tells us MSS’s intent to develop capabilities to cause catastrophic damage.
US leaders should tell Americans the fearful truth. We all need to wake up, understand and confront MSS’s hurricane force intentions and offensive means to disrupt or destroy communication systems, safety of water supplies, delivery of electric power and more.
